What’s So Special about a Recurve Archery Bow?

If you are at your local archery store, you will most likely see that there are huge selections of bows. You will also notice that among this sea of bows, there are two different styles that are the most prevalent. tumblr_m162l77UDG1r2ae1jo6_500 The two bows that are the most widespread are the compound bow and the recurve bow. The compound bow has a system of cables and pulleys that it uses to shoot the arrow. Then there is the recurve bow. You can easily point this type of bow out because it has tips at each end of the bow that are pointed away from you. Recurve bows harness their power from their curved tips and allow them to be such a pleasure to shoot. Since they do not have the cams that their counterparts have, they do not make the shooter jerk forward when their arrows are shot. Not all recurves were created equal, so thee are many different variations of the recurve bow. One of the most popular versions of this bow that is on the market right now is the takedown bow. This recurve bow has all of the same characteristics that a regular bow in this class would have; only you can disassemble this bow to move it around. They usually break up into three different parts for the easy transportability. Recurve bows are also made of much different materials then the compound bows. Both of the models have limbs (which are the “arms” that come from the bows riser), but recurves are more often than not made from various laminated forms of wood. Recurve bows also make frequent use of blending fiberglass into the limbs. The reasoning for this is that the fiberglass makes the wood bow much more durable. If you are looking for your first bow, or you are simply looking for a change of pace, I would recommend that you test out a recurve bow.
