Gear Review: Spider Pistol Crossbow

“What good is an 80 lb. crossbow?”

This question may or may not enter your mind when you first learn about the Spider pistol crossbow. It did when I first heard about this relatively unknown product. After learning about it though, I realized this Napoleon sized crossbow would be a fun way to shoot and have a change in shooting experience. Check out this video from thecrossbowstore.com to see this pistol crossbow in action. https://youtu.be/mmeDELF67Gs Most crossbows today range between 150 lbs. and 185 lbs. of draw weight, so at first glance this might seem as a joke. In fact, the Spider is not meant to be a big game hunting bow. This pint-sized bow is great for target practice and simply having a good time shooting. Though small in stature and easy to shoot this crossbow is not a toy, shooting its small aluminum arrows at up to 160 fps. For reference, this is roughly the speed of the average traditional bow. Shooters of this bow should remember to practice safe shooting practices while using it. Some will tout this as a small game hunting crossbow, but field points, lacking any cutting edge, are not adequate for small game hunting in my opinion. A great gift idea for hunters, or a good way to introduce youngsters to the world of archery, the Spider pistol crossbow might be just what you are looking for as the holiday season closes in upon us.
