Shootin' Stuff. Can a Crossbow Pierce an Armored Helmet? Watch this Video to Find Out

Could your favorite crossbow pierce an armored helmet? Follow along as one Youtuber puts his crossbow to the test.

Let's be frank; shootin' stuff is fun. Everyone has a weapon of choice, but in the end we love to pick a target and watch our projectile hit the bull. It must be hard wired in our DNA. Not only do we like to shoot stuff and hit it, we like to shoot odd stuff and see what happens. Maybe its just the country boy in me coming out, but I don't seem to be the only one afflicted with this disease. At some point the 10 year old boy or girl creeps out of all of us, and we wonder, "What would happen if I shot that?" The advent of Youtube has allowed a select few people to actually make a sort of living shootin' stuff and filming it. It is the bulk of content for several very popular channels. One channel, TWANGnBANG, is an example of a shooting channel with a tremendous following. Recently he put out a video to answer the question; can a crossbow pierce an armored helmet? Whether you are interested in the ballistics side of things, or just like to watch people shootin' stuff, give this video a look. https://youtu.be/tNpAxD6Cd_k Pretty cool to say the least. I'm not sure what the attraction is, but it sure is fun to watch. As mentioned by the host, the crossbow featured in the video is the Scorpyd Ventilator Extreme. This crossbow will get you around 160 foot pounds of kinetic energy. My guess is if it can pierce an armored helmet, it should do fine on the hunting field. The Barnett Ghost 410 packs a punch.[/caption] If you are looking for a crossbow with the same kind of punch, there are a host of other crossbows to choose from beside the Scorpyd. One excellent choice is the Barnett Ghost 410. This compound crossbow brings the pain at 410 feet per second producing 150 foot pounds of kinetic energy. It also rings in at a fraction of the cost compared to a Scorpyd Ventilator. Another crossbow that hits like a freight train is the PSE TAC Ordnance. Arrow speeds of around 400 feet per second will generate 155 foot pounds of kinetic energy when paired with a 425 grain arrow. This bow actually comes with a warning label. That alone should tip you off about its power. Both of these crossbows are very comparable to the bow featured in the video. Next time that adolescent inside of you asks, "What would happen if I shot that?", give in to the urge. Shootin' stuff is fun whether you are 8 or 80 whatever weapon you choose.
